KABUL POST – The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has announced the launch of infrastructure rebuilding projects in several urban and suburban areas of Afghanistan. This initiative, backed by financial support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japanese Embassy in Afghanistan, aims to address the critical infrastructure gaps left by decades of conflict, natural disasters and a lack of investment in basic urban services. These challenges have particularly affected urban and suburban communities where residents continue to struggle with inadequate access to essential services such as water, sanitation and reliable transportation.

Ongoing UN-Habitat projects in Afghanistan focus on restoring key urban infrastructure to improve living conditions and community resilience. The agency highlights that infrastructure development is crucial for both immediate relief and long-term sustainability, urging continued international support to reduce vulnerabilities and foster stable, sustainable urban growth.
