Netanyahu's trial on corruption charges which was paused due to the war and  lifting of emergency restrictions will resume today at the Quds District Court. This marks the return of one of Israel's most controversial legal cases to the forefront of political dynamics, starting with testimony from one of the defense witnesses.

The Israeli military's Home Front Command allowed court proceedings to resume in most areas of the country after the US and Iran reached a two-week ceasefire. Netanyahu faces charges in two cases of illegal deals to receive favorable media coverage from Israeli outlets as well as accused in a third case of receiving luxury gifts worth over $260,000, including jewelry and champagne from billionaires in exchange for political favors.

Netanyahu, is the first sitting Israeli prime minister to be tried for corruption. He has repeatedly described the legal proceedings which began in 2019 as a ‘political trial’. In October, US President Donald Trump directly called on Israeli President Isaac Herzog to pardon Netanyahu during his speech to the Israeli parliament.

At the same time, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has indicted 35 individuals, including Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, for an attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla. The charges include crimes against humanity, genocide and torture with prosecutors seeking life sentences and long prison terms.
