The Contact Commission Afghan Public Figures has announced that since its establishment, 1,315 former officials and prominent Afghan figures from the previous government have returned to Afghanistan. This includes former high-ranking officials, politicians and other influential figures who had either fled or remained abroad following the IEA's rise to power in August 2021. The commission, tasked with fostering dialogue and reconciliation, has worked to facilitate the return of these individuals to the country, signaling a potential shift in Afghanistan’s political landscape.

KABUL POST - The commission’s efforts also aim to create a more inclusive political environment where former government officials and those involved in the previous administration can play a role in shaping the future of Afghanistan. The return of these figures is seen as an essential step in the process of national reconciliation and rebuilding, offering hope for a more unified and peaceful Afghanistan.

While the IEA has expressed a commitment to integrating a wide range of Afghan talents and expertise, including those from the former government, some critics argue that the process remains slow and selective. Nonetheless, the return of such a large number of individuals indicates a shift in policies, suggesting a potential opening for more political inclusiveness in the future.
